1019: I am Kind of a Lifeguard Snob

It is 10:09pm.

You know it is hot when I am taking cold baths and enjoying them. I usually do not like cold water--at all.

I love the bus, but during the summer, it gets hot in here. We have a small air conditioner in the window and some fans, but it is a metal structure, so it draws in heat. I put a top coat on the bus last summer, but it needs more insulation.

We have been doing pretty good about adjusting, but that usually means finding somewhere to go during the day.  And there is not a lot of indoor activity in Natchitoches, well free indoor activity I guess I should say. Overcast and rainy days are now my favorite things ever.

We will survive. We always do. Mornings and nights are actually pretty nice. We just have to kind of find our way during the days.

We had a really good day today. We went to the Library and then to The City Pool. We played Marco Polo with some sweet kids and then once they left we kind of just lounged around the pool. Alex and I played "volleyball" and Jules and Gabe enjoyed the slides...until there were just too many people and the lifeguards were not really watching the bottoms of the slides for people in the way. I was really afraid of Julien and Gabe coming down and hitting someone, or getting hit by someone else--so we did our best in the "shallow end" until they were ready to go.

Being a former lifeguard, I was surprised at how relaxed these kid's jobs are. They were on their phones, and there was only one kid on guard stand for the WHOLE pool. I know it is a shallow pool, but there was no rule enforcement and too many people to really make that comfortably work for me...lol. I guess I am a bit of a lifeguard snob.

I am thankful, though, for the one sweet girl who did check in on Gabe because he was bobbing a lot and it was making her nervous.

I don't miss being a lifeguard lol. I feel like it was one of the most thankless jobs in the world, and people don't take it seriously.

To the lifeguards who take their job's seriously and watch vigilantly, this is me sending you my love. You matter. You are important. You will always be in my "lifeguard snob" club lol. Solidarity.

Oh summer, you bring out the best in people don't you?

I think I am delirious from the heat, and the sunburn, and the little bit of lingering poison ivy still itching like crazy on my foot. Lol.

Oh! Julien made another new friend at VBS, which is so amazing. He doesn't remember her name though lol. But they get a long really well and you can see the affect on his self esteem just knowing that other kids want to hang out with him.

Gabriel is struggling with VBS, picking it apart, finding all the reasons not to like it...but I told him he needs to go. Life is going to be full of those little things we could pick apart at, but if we let all those things stop us we will never have any fun....also I bribed him with a $5 shopping spree at The Dollar Tree if he just makes it through the next couple of nights lol.

Mom win? Possibly??? lol. I don't know.

Alex has a play date tomorrow.....

I am just doing the best I can.

Oh and of course now Gabriel decides to throw a fit.

Gotta go. Sending you all lots of love. Feel free to send some love my way.

Don't forget to change the world for Elijah.

Thank you.

I know your brothers can drive me crazy,
but I would give anything to have you here
driving me even more crazy.
I love and miss you so much Elijah.
Always.

  1. I’ve been reading your blogs and stalking thru all the ones that I have missed in the past. Lol. I realize I have only actually met you once, possibly twice... and don’t really know all that much about you. With that being said, I am intrigued in the talk about the “bus” and would really love to know more about your story. So I will continue to keep up with you and your family thru your post but the bus I must hear more about, as I find this very interesting. Bus, as in a actual bus?
With all sincerity, your friend Marsha! ❤️
