Alex saves the Day!

As we stood in the musky smell of moth balls and vintage clothing, I felt my heart drop in my stomach a little bit.
We just drove an hour or so through rush hour traffic to pick up this knight costume and it was nothing at all like I had imagined it to be, AND there was no way it was going to fit Levi -my husband.
I wanted to blow my top, but I decided to keep it cool.
The kids just sat in the car for the whole afternoon and everyone was testy and irritated.
We had to make this happen.
So my oldest son, Alex,  stepped in and saved the day. He was now The Kind Knight.

Downtown Orlando is a whole new world to me. I mean, I have been there, but it always amazes me.
Julien kept asking if we were even in Florida...lol.
The sounds of the train going by, the bustle of busy people trying to get somewhere, even though it sounds like the "Disney bubble" I tend to live in- it really isn't.

As we were walking to the outdoor jazz concert, I was feeling good. It was a pretty nice evening and I was looking forward to the music, the atmosphere, and the promotion of The Kind Knight going well.
We got there just as the concert was starting, so the crowd was just funneling in. Alex was excited and was doing really well at handing out fliers. He even had a few people ask him for fliers because he was just so gosh darn adorable ;)

And then, just like any good story, it had to come to an end.
Unfortunately our end came pretty prematurely thanks to an over zealous security guard who had an even bigger and scarier security guard on her team.
I wanted to tell her that I had read up on my legal rights. I wanted to tell her it was a public event on public property and I was not selling anything, so I was protected by free speech--but the big scary guy kind of killed my bravery.
Plus I was there to promote kindness- not start crap with someone who clearly wanted to just do their job (even though she was extremely rude).
On the way back to the car, I told Alex he was really brave. It takes a lot of confidence to step out of your comfort zone, dress up like a goofy knight, and hand out fliers to people you don't know. I admire him very much for his help last night.
Either way, it turned out to be a great night. Alex ended up handing out quite a few fliers on the way back to the car.
And then we all celebrated with a nice little family dinner.

Another really great thing about yesterday is that we had steady pledges coming in all day. We ended up getting $245 in pledges.
Thank you again and again for all your wonderful support and encouragement. None of this is possible without you.
Tomorrow I have some exciting news and a nice little story of kindness to tell you...so stay tuned :)
Be Kind,
Kelly Airhart

1,520 days: Overwhelm.

It is 8:49am. Everyone is still asleep... I have my "happy light" shining into my  peripheral  vision, and my vitamins and medic...
