Patience: 8 Months in the Making

So, the last 2 days have been kind of a bummer in raising pledges. I have only raised $30, and the goal for each day has been $200.
But I have to keep my head up, because we have something very special coming very soon that I think will be quite hilarious and should bring in quite a bit of attention to The Kind Knight.
(More on that to come, but basically it involves my awesome husband dressing up like a knight and standing downtown with me to take photos and hand out fliers. Hopefully we get some funding too.)
Anyways, with pledges being low the last couple of days I have had to remind myself to be patient. People need to know this is important to me, and I have to put forth the effort and remain confident and it will all work out.
After all, The Kind Knight took me 8 months to put together, and there were a lot of times where I almost just gave up. But I stuck with it, and now I am just in the final rounds of making my dream come true.
The story itself didn't end up taking that long to write. However, the illustrations did take forever to finish...lol.
You probably noticed that The Kind Knight is made from paper cuttings.

I didn't have an exacto knife. I didn't have any special scissors. It was just me and my handy dandy all purpose scissors.
There were days I would get so frustrated over cutting little tiny eyeballs and dropping them into the horrible green carpet only to be lost forever...which meant cutting out more tiny little eyeballs..and usually dropping them, creating a vicious cycle of eyeball cutting...lol. Not something you would hear most Children's authors or illustrators talking about I suppose.
In the eight months it took to put The Kind Knight together, I would literally sit on the floor for hours and hours just cutting and recutting until I was happy with the character or the scene, then I would use the sunlight from my back door and take a picture of each page. Then I would upload those photos to computer and use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to clean them up and add graphics and texts.
At one point, The Kind Knight was 50 something pages long...lol. I really put my heart and soul into this little book. And a lot of time.
Here are two of my favorite pages that I had to loose to make the book a reasonable length.

It was a long project, and many times my husband had to remind me, "work on your book." But I couldn't be happier with the finished product.
I hope you enjoyed my little "behind the scenes" post of The Kind Knight, and I hope it lets you know how much effort I put forth. Any maybeeee even inspires you to make a pledge ;)
Thanks again for all of you who have made pledges, or have shared posts, or are going to make pledges. I say it every time, but I can not do this without you.
Be Kind,
Kelly Airhart

1,520 days: Overwhelm.

It is 8:49am. Everyone is still asleep... I have my "happy light" shining into my  peripheral  vision, and my vitamins and medic...
