As I said before, I am trying to be more personal with my blogs, and trying to open up more.
With that being said, a lot has happened in the last few days.
First, we rescued a sweet kitten, that unfortunately passed away the very next morning. He was shaking and could barely stand up, and before I could get back from dropping Alex off at camp and bring him to the vet, he had passed. I felt so helpless. We hadn't even named him yet.
The hardest part was having to explain to Alex that afternoon what had happened.
The little ones had no idea really. The kitten was acting sick from the moment we brought him home, so we really hadn't let them too close to it. Levi just told Julien and Gabriel that the kitten had to go to heaven, and they seemed to just accept it.
But Alex is old enough to understand death.
As I sat in the pick up line at camp, I was so nervous just thinking of ways of how to tell him what happened.
Finally, he got in the car.
I let him tell me about his day. He was so excited and happy, I knew it was going to be really hard to break it to him.
But, I took a deep breath, and I let him have it. The kitten was dead.
He cried. I cried.
But I told him that we have to take comfort that the kitten was at peace, no longer hurting, and died knowing that he had a family that loved him.
It took him a few hours, but then he seemed to accept it.
Even though we only had the kitten for one night, I miss it.
But just like I told Alex, our pets are here to make us happy. The kitten would want us to be happy, so I will be at peace knowing he is at peace.
OK! On to some brighter topics!
I also had to host a meeting this week for Disney's Contemporary Resort's Recreation Coordinators/Leaders.
We get to choose our topics, and make the meeting our own. So of course, my topic was kindness and volunteer work.
I started the meeting with a brief Power Point about our trip of 1,000 acts of kindness from earlier this year. It was really cool to get to share that experience with my coworkers, because at the time of our trip, I was employed in another region. I also really wanted to encourage them to take chances and follow their dreams. I hope I did a good job!
I also brought in a guest speaker to talk about "Voluntear" Opportunities through Disney.
It was a great meeting, and I am pretty darn proud of myself for how well it went :D
But even as awesome as that meeting went, nothing compares to how amazing today's Back to School Celebration went!
Today from 11:00-1:00 we were at Cagan Crossings Library with Queen Elsa, Princess Anna, Peter Pan, and Tinker Bell handing out free school supplies.
The families who came were just so thankful, and it was such an amazing feeling to see the kids light up when they saw the characters!
And we gave out all 50 packs of school supplies. Super exciting!!!
Here are some pictures for your enjoyment :)
So happy that today went so well. I really can't thank the characters, and everyone else involved, enough for all their help!
The kids loved it, the parents were super thankful for the school supplies, and the Librarians thought it was super cool.
Great Day. Great Event. Great Feelings.
Before I leave, I just want to share one of my favorite moments from today. A very talented Elsa sings with some super cute kids. Super sweet.
Okay, I know it was a long blog post, but totally worth the read...right?
Thanks so much for reading!
Be Kind,
Kelly Airhart
