First off, happy belated mother's day to all you mothers out there!
I spent yesterday hanging out with my boys, and my best friend (who is also a terrific mom). We all enjoyed some much needed outdoor time at "the bayou."
But let's back track just a little bit to my live reading Saturday at Rocking Horse Toy Store in beautiful downtown Natchitoches, Louisiana.
If you've never been to The Rocking Horse Toy Store, it is an adorable family owned specialty toy store, carrying a wide assortment of imaginative and educational toys. And of course, there is a lot of fun to be found too!
The owners, Phyllis and Steve Stroud are wonderful people who have given so much back to the community of Natchitoches, and I am proud to say that I use to work for them in this charming shop.
It was a very nostalgic morning for me Saturday morning as I read to the children and watched them coloring. Their sweet smiles and silly answers to my questions made me feel really proud to be a children's book author. And it was also lovely to see their parents, most of whom I knew from growing up in Natchitoches.
I think "Gus the Gator" (as I named him)....enjoyed the reading too!
And if you missed the signing, no fear! There are still a few signed copies of The Kind Knight waiting to be purchased at Rocking Horse Toy Store! So go out and get one today :)
Now tomorrow is a huge day for this little book, for two great reasons.
First, tomorrow starts the 3 day FLA (Florida Library Association) Conference in Orlando, Florida. I am not able to be there, because of a personal matter, but The Kind Knight will professionally represented by The Combined Book Exhibit. I am super nervous, excited, and proud all at the same time.
Here is a link with more information about the event:
I would appreciate any positive thoughts and prayers you want to send my way!
Tomorrow is also a big day, because I will reading to a friend's class at Parks Elementary in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I will be posting more about this later, but what I'm most excited about is that it is an amazing outreach opportunity. Outreach is really the most important part of my work to me. After the reading, each kid will be leaving with their very own copy of The Kind Knight to take home, and hopefully read, love and learn from. It's going to be fantastic!
Again, I want to continue to thank each and everyone of you who have supported me and my dreams. Together, we might be able to put a little more kindness in the world.
Be Kind,
