Faith and Alarm Clocks

Let me share this thought I had this morning about faith and alarm clocks.

Yes, I said faith and alarm clocks...just keep reading.

Think about the faith we put in our alarm clocks.

Every night we go to bed putting total faith in our alarm clock to wake us up the next morning on time for work, school, or any plans we have made for the following day.

Most nights, we give our alarm clock total faith that it will wake us up, because that is what it is supposed to do--right? It's just like when we give our faith to God, or our faith to tomorrow, or our faith to the sunrise in the mornings. We expect those things to come through for us, because they always do!

It is extremely easy to give faith to our alarm clocks when we are practicing our normal daily routines, and everything is going great. You close your eyes, go to sleep, and wake up when you hear the alarm. Pretty simple.

But think about those nights where you know tomorrow is going to be a hard day, or your routine has been interrupted and you have to wake up earlier than usual for something extremely important. For some of us, these things can make us trust that alarm clock a whole lot less.

You know that you set the right time. You know that you turned on the alarm. And yet somehow, all of the anticipation and uneasiness about the day that follows makes you completely doubt your alarm clock.

You toss and turn worrying about it all night. Surely, the clock will somehow malfunction, and you are going to wake up late and miss everything that was important about the day ahead of you.

Doubt starts to turn into sleeplessness.

Your body wakes you up every hour on the hour and you stare at that clock. Maybe you double check the settings. It might reassure you for a moment, but then you close your eyes and the sleepless night carries on full of doubt, leaving you drained and exhausted. Not a good feeling.

However...what always comes through in the morning? Your alarm clock--whether you had faith in it or not.

After all that doubt, and sleepiness, you are awoken by the proud buzzing that was always certain to come through for you.

I know it is not eloquent or written in verse, but I think that is shows us that there are times where our lack of faith is completely silly and certain things in our lives will always come through for us if we just push the right buttons and make sure we have turned on the switch.

You are in control of your life. No one else.

If you don't like where you are--change it. And change it for the better!

Hope that made some sense...maybe I can turn it into a Ted Talk someday.

Have faith!

Be Kind,
Kelly Airhart

It is 8:49am. Everyone is still asleep... I have my "happy light" shining into my  peripheral  vision, and my vitamins and medic...
